FAQs

Consultants are seen as the “expert” on a particular subject or challenge.  Their role is to assess and advise, providing their client with solutions to problems.

Therapists assess, diagnose, and treat clients, focusing on working with one’s past experiences to resolve problems. Coaches focus on the future and the achievement of goals. It’s a co-creative partnership between the coach and client designed to support the client in reaching defined goals, rather than fixing problems or providing solutions. There is no “diagnosis” and the coach sees the client as already being an “expert” on him or herself.

Coaches are skilled at asking powerful questions while guiding conversations to help the client increase self-awareness, uncover blind spots, and discover their own answers. The client sets their own goals, and the coach leads the process of discovery while holding the client accountable for taking action to achieve their goals.

The rhythm of each coaching session is similar to that of the entire coaching process. We begin with what you want or need to determine the goal for the session. We then share a conversation in which I ask you questions to fine-tune the picture in your mind’s eye of exactly what that want/need looks like.  Through powerful questioning, you will peel the layers back in order to get the clearest, most vivid picture.

The session ends with you making a plan to further your exploration on your own, by committing to action steps to keep the momentum going. At the start of the next session, we will begin by discussing what you learned from the actions that you took since our last session.

Meetings are typically done via Zoom.

Coaching is a commitment between you and your coach, and the amount of time it takes depends on your specific circumstances and desired goals. Generally speaking, hourly sessions at least twice a month for four to six months work well. The idea is to move forward and realize goals as soon as possible, so you don’t need a coach anymore.

Having said that, no two coaching experiences are alike, and I will work with you to shape the process that works best with you.

A lot: motivation, commitment, engagement, curiosity, honesty, time, trust, and willingness to do the work. It takes time, hard work, and practice to change habits, patterns, behaviors, and beliefs. The greater your dedicated engagement in the coaching process is, the more you will get out of it and the faster you will reach your goals. I will be right beside you as your accountability partner --  acknowledging your progress, challenging your self-limiting beliefs, joining in brainstorming, and celebrating your successes.

The most important reason to hire me is if you think your desire for a better future aligns with your belief that I understand you, your current situation and your motivation and commitment to make a change – all things you can get a sense of in the complimentary consultation session.

Additional credibility may come from knowing that I have spent my career working with people to make desired changes in their life, and have a master’s degree in counseling psychology as well as credentialing as a Board-Certified Coach.

Imagine the foggiest of mornings on the coast. You can’t even see your hand in front of your face. As the sun shines brighter and brighter and dissipates the fog, not only does your hand reappear but the view in the distance becomes crystal clear. Our process will shine a light on your wants, needs, dreams and desires as well as the path forward.  You’ll know you’re making progress as the picture of your future gets clearer, brighter, more detailed and more colorful.

Why did you name your
business Shine?

Because that’s what BJ did.

My friend BJ died. She was such a bright light throughout her whole life, even during the last few years when she set her sights on beating cancer.

As a young woman, she had a talent for knowing who she was, what she wanted, and how to get it. Her zest for life, connection with and love of all living things was evident in everything she did.

Like a moth to a flame, you were drawn to BJ because of her sharp intellect, quick wit, genuine warmth, compassion, authenticity and sincere interest in knowing all about you.

I felt the most “me” whenever I spent time with BJ. She made “shining her light” look easy, and maybe it was for her.

I like to think that it was her purpose in life -- to do her part in drawing out the light in those around her, making the world, quite simply, a better place.

Thank you, BJ, for being my muse!

It depends. If what you’ve read so far sparks an interest in taking the next step, please contact me for a 30-minute complimentary consultation session. After I fully understand your needs, desires and hopes for coaching, I can be better equipped to design a plan, including fees, that would be most effective for you.

STAY   HUNGRY,  INSPIRED, NURTURING, AND   EMPOWERED.
